Nations Trust Bank successfully finalizes takeover of HSBC Sri Lanka’s consumer banking division.

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The transfer of the Retail Banking division of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) in Sri Lanka to Nations Trust Bank PLC (NTB) has been completed as of May 1, according to NTB’s announcement.

NTB has successfully integrated HSBC’s retail banking customers into its own operations and has welcomed the staff from HSBC Sri Lanka. This transition has resulted in the addition of approximately 200,000 retail customer accounts to NTB, encompassing various products such as savings and current accounts, fixed deposits, credit and debit cards, retail loans, and a segment of high-net-worth clients who will now be served through Nations Trust Bank’s Private Banking services.

The acquisition also includes the addition of seven new branches to NTB’s existing network, increasing the total number of branches to 96 across the country. Notably, the branches located in Bambalapitiya, Flower Road, Union Place, and Pelawatte will function as exclusive Private Banking Centres. The other branches are situated in Nugegoda, Jaffna, and Kandy.
