The National Biotechnology Industry Association (NBIA) has announced its re-establishment and the revival of its operations through a newly formed Council and Committee, signaling a renewed dedication to the advancement of Sri Lanka’s biotechnology industry. After a hiatus, the NBIA is set to recommence its activities with a clear aim of enhancing collaboration within the industry, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable development in the biotechnology sector.
Founded in 2016, the NBIA serves as the national representative body for the biotechnology sector in Sri Lanka, uniting corporations, academic institutions, research organizations, industry experts, and various stakeholders involved in biotechnology and its related fields. The Association acts as a conduit for facilitating collaboration between industry and academia, encouraging research and innovation, enabling knowledge sharing, and supporting initiatives that enhance biotechnology education, skill development, quality standards, and overall industry competitiveness. The NBIA encompasses key areas such as Agricultural Biosystem Technology, Medical Biotechnology, Industrial Biosystem Technology, Marine and Aquatic Technology, Energy and Environment, and Food Biotechnology and Bioprocess Technology.
