PickMe Enhances Book Fair Experience with QR Ticketing, Convenient Rides, and Streamlined Gate 3 Access

The Colombo International Book Fair 2026 is set to enhance visitor experiences through a combination of digital ticketing, designated pickup zones, and a complimentary shuttle service between Borella and the BMICH. These initiatives aim to streamline the process of purchasing tickets and arranging transportation for attendees.

Tickets for the Book Fair can be conveniently bought via the PickMe Explore app, allowing visitors to present a QR code at the entry points of the BMICH. This integration through PickMe’s digital ecosystem—comprising PickMe Explore, Flash, and Rentals—provides a seamless event experience by merging ticketing, transportation routing, and vendor logistics into a single platform.

This year introduces a dedicated waiting area for vehicles at Gate 3 of the BMICH, complete with on-site assistance to help visitors navigate to their pickup point and arrange their rides. This facility addresses a common issue at the popular event: the difficulty of locating vehicles and drivers amid bustling crowds and busy roads. The Fair will take place from September 25 to October 4, attracting a diverse audience including readers, students, families, publishers, and booksellers from across Sri Lanka.

Jiffry Zulfer, the CEO of PickMe, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating a cohesive experience for visitors. He noted, “The journey for attendees starts long before they arrive at the BMICH and continues until they return home. Being able to purchase tickets through PickMe, enter the Fair using a QR code, and arrange transportation all within the same app significantly enhances convenience. This year, we are further improving that experience with a designated pickup area at Gate 3, making it simpler for visitors and drivers to connect when it’s time to leave.”

For the second year in a row, digital tickets through PickMe Explore enable visitors to secure their admission in advance and have their QR codes ready for scanning upon arrival. This system eliminates the need to wait in line for tickets, allowing users to manage both entry and transportation in a user-friendly manner.

The designated waiting area at Gate 3 can accommodate up to 10 vehicles simultaneously, with a rotation system in place for drivers picking up passengers. This setup provides drivers with a specific location to wait and aims to encourage more drivers to participate in serving the Fair’s visitors.

To assist attendees, PickMe will deploy wayfinders and support staff at strategic points within the venue to help with pickup arrangements and guide visitors to Gate 3. Additionally, notifications through the app and updates on social media will offer further assistance, enabling visitors to plan their departures while still enjoying the exhibition.

This initiative stems from PickMe’s insights gained during previous fairs, where congestion and the layout of exits complicated vehicle pickups. While the availability of vehicles will be contingent on demand, the dedicated waiting area and on-site coordination strive to simplify the process of connecting passengers with drivers, ensuring smoother departures.

To further enhance access to the Fair, PickMe will provide a free shuttle service between Borella and the BMICH throughout the ten-day event. This service aims to assist attendees arriving via public transport to reach the venue and return to Borella afterward. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a 15% discount on qualifying PickMe rides, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.

A dedicated PickMe booth will be available to help users with app-related inquiries, ride bookings, and information about the company’s services. Those interested in joining the platform as drivers will also have the opportunity to seek assistance with registration.

Publishers, booksellers, and other vendors will benefit from special offers across PickMe Flash, Truck, and Rentals, facilitating the transportation of books, displays, and other materials before, during, and after the event.

This collaboration is part of PickMe’s Colombo Connect initiative, aiming to enhance one of the city’s most cherished annual events. By integrating ticketing, transportation, visitor experiences, and vendor logistics, it showcases how local events can be made more accessible and enjoyable for both attendees and businesses.

“The Book Fair serves as a vital gathering point for readers, writers, publishers, and families. Through Colombo Connect and PickMe Explore, our goal is to help individuals fully engage with the city’s offerings by simplifying logistical arrangements. At the Book Fair, this translates to merging admission, mobility, and support so that visitors can dedicate more time to exploring books,” Zulfer concluded.
