Government to Prioritise Export Sector, Intervene to Overcome Challenges – President
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasised that the Government will take all necessary measures and intervene to the fullest extent to overcome the challenges currently facing the export sector, treating it as a national priority.
The President made these remarks while attending a discussion with leading exporters and representatives of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce this afternoon (19) at the Presidential Secretariat, to explore measures required to address the challenges confronting the export sector in the prevailing situation.
During the meeting, particular attention was drawn to the difficulties faced by exporters, as well as manufacturers and service providers, in securing fuel supplies.
Special focus was also placed on prioritising the export sector in managing the current situation in a manner that minimises the impact on the national economy.
Extensive discussions were held on the issues faced by the sector, along with the views and proposals presented by exporters and other stakeholders.
Among those present were Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr Anil Jayantha Fernando; Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Dr Harshana Suriyapperuma; Economic Adviser to the President, Mr Duminda Hulangamuwa; Chairman of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, Mr Mangala Wijesinghe; Chief Executive Officer of Brandix Group, Mr Ashroff Omar; Chairman of the Joint Apparel Association Forum, Mr Felix Fernando; Director General of the Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber Products, Dr Sisira Ranatunga; Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tea Exporters Association, Mr Huzeifa Akbarally; as well as representatives from the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the Container Transporters Association, the Coconut-Based Industries Association, the National Chamber of Exporters, and several export, manufacturing and service sector institutions.
