Prime Minister Engages with New ADB Country Director to Strengthen Sri Lanka Ties

The newly appointed Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Sri Lanka, Ms. Shannon Cowlin, along with her delegation, met with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya on February 10 at the Prime Minister’s office.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister extended a warm welcome to the delegation and congratulated Ms. Cowlin on her new appointment. She acknowledged the long-standing partnership between Sri Lanka and the ADB, expressing appreciation for the bank’s continued engagement and support, which aligns with Sri Lanka’s national development priorities.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude for the ADB’s timely assistance in response to Cyclone Ditwah, highlighting the significance of such support in mitigating the immediate impacts of natural disasters.

The ADB delegation reaffirmed its commitment to assist Sri Lanka during the post-cyclone recovery phase, including efforts in rebuilding and reconstruction. They also emphasized their dedication to supporting the education sector.

The meeting was attended by several notable figures, including Ms. Sona Shrestha, Officer-in-Charge/Deputy Director General of SARD, Ms. Cholpon Mambetova, Country Operations Head of the ADB Sri Lanka Mission Resident, Ms. Sagarika Bogahawatta, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Samantha Bandara, Director General of the External Resources Department of the Ministry of Finance, and Mr. Ranjith Gurusinghe, Director for the ADB Division in the External Resources Department of the Ministry of Finance.
