FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – Sri Lanka is set to strengthen its reputation as a top destination for experiential travel as the renowned women-only adventure competition, Raid Amazones, makes its return to the island from November 2 to November 10, 2026, according to the event organizers.
The competition will take place in the coastal region of Kalutara, gathering more than 250 international competitors along with a large group of organizers, media representatives, and support personnel.
As stated by the organizers in a press release, “This event embodies the spirit of exploration, resilience, and personal achievement, merging athleticism with cultural exploration and fostering meaningful interactions between participants and local communities.”
Sri Lanka has previously hosted this prestigious challenge seven times, specifically in the years 2004, 2009, 2018, 2019, and two sessions in 2022, with the latest event occurring in 2023.
Stakeholders in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector noted that these events have significantly contributed to promoting the island’s diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and renowned hospitality to worldwide audiences over the last twenty years.
The 2019 event was particularly significant for the country’s tourism industry, marking one of the first major international sports and adventure events after the conclusion of the conflict. It took place across the scenic eastern regions of Passikuda, Kalkudah, and Thoppigala, sending a positive message to the global travel community that Sri Lanka was safe, open, and prepared to host distinguished international guests.
Raid Amazones was established in 2001 by French media figure and adventure expert Alexandre Debanne, combining elements of sports, endurance challenges, and genuine cultural experiences.
Previous host locations have enjoyed substantial promotional advantages, with past events yielding over 300 international media mentions through various television, print, and online platforms, according to the organizers.
The 2026 edition will showcase the distinctive environments of Kalutara, characterized by its beautiful beaches, rivers, wetlands, lush forests, rubber plantations, and vibrant local communities, creating an ideal backdrop for this celebrated adventure competition.
In addition to the competitive elements, participants will have the opportunity to engage with Sri Lankan traditions, cuisine, and hospitality while participating in activities that challenge their endurance, teamwork, and determination.
Raid Amazones Sri Lanka 2026 will be organized through a cooperative effort involving Raid Amazones, SriLankan Airlines, and Connaissance De Ceylan, with support from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. Turyaa Kalutara has been designated as the official accommodation partner.
