FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – Rajnath Singh, India’s Defence Minister, is set to embark on a three-day trip to Sri Lanka, where he will engage in discussions with the country’s leadership, as announced by the Ministry of Defence.
During his stay, Singh, also known as Raksha Mantri, will address various topics with Sri Lankan officials and will have the opportunity to meet with the Indian community residing in Colombo.
His visit is scheduled from September 8 to 10 and will include a delegation made up of senior representatives from both the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of External Affairs.
The purpose of Raksha Mantri’s journey is to enhance the historically strong and amicable bilateral ties between India and Sri Lanka, focusing on mutually advantageous areas such as maritime and defense collaboration.
This marks the first visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Sri Lanka in almost 40 years, with the last being K.C. Pant in 1988 during the tenure of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
According to reports from Indian media, discussions will likely cover defense cooperation, potential partnerships in air-defense systems, and a review of current security collaborations. (Colombo/Sep 7/2026)
