Sampath Bank in Sri Lanka Introduces Google Pay Services for Visa and MasterCard Users

Sampath Bank has launched Google Pay for all holders of Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cards, enhancing the availability of digital payment options for customers in Sri Lanka.

This new feature allows cardholders to convert their Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards into digital versions, enabling transactions at retail locations, through mobile applications, and online. This innovation brings fast, secure, and widely accepted tap-to-pay capabilities to Android devices, addressing the growing demand for mobile-oriented solutions, as stated by the bank.

With this development, users can leave physical cards behind while enjoying acceptance at millions of merchants worldwide.

Chirath Samarasekara, the Head of Card Centre at Sampath Bank, noted, “The way we use cards is shifting from traditional formats to a more adaptable digital payment landscape. Google Pay significantly enhances the utility of SampathCards by providing a seamless payment experience across various channels and locations.”

The bank highlighted that mobile wallets are transforming consumer interactions with their finances, particularly among tech-savvy individuals and frequent travelers who prioritize ease and security.

Darshin Pathinayake, Chief Business Intelligence Officer at Sampath Bank, remarked, “Today’s digital adoption hinges on how effectively financial services weave into daily life. Customers seek secure, responsive, and globally relevant experiences without unnecessary complications.”

“Google Pay allows Sampath Cardholders to make transactions with assurance while remaining effortlessly connected to their finances, turning banking into a natural part of their daily activities rather than a distinct process.”

This initiative offers quick, secure, and globally recognized tap-to-pay features for Android users, meeting the rising demand for mobile-first solutions.

Transactions are safeguarded by tokenization technology, which substitutes sensitive card details with secure digital identifiers, ensuring customer information is kept safe. Sampath Bank’s digital framework, integrated with Google’s global payment system, provides both scalability and reliability for local and international transactions, according to the bank.
