Serendib Flour Mills, dedicated to nourishing the nation, celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 by organising a special programme for the women of the organisation, recognising the valuable contribution of both its employees and third-party female support staff.

The initiative brought together 57 women for a day centred on health, wellbeing and appreciation, reflecting the company’s continued focus on fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace.

The programme began with an awareness session on dietary management for a healthy lifestyle, conducted by Dr Disna Kumari, Dietician at Hemas Hospital. The session offered practical guidance on balanced nutrition and healthy living habits, while also giving participants the opportunity to receive personalized diet plans and one-to-one consultations.

Attendees also benefited from a series of basic health screenings, including BMI measurement, blood pressure checks and blood sugar testing, helping them gain a clearer understanding of their overall health and wellbeing.

Vijay Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Serendib Flour Mills, said, “The women across our workforce make an important contribution to the strength and continuity of our operations. Programmes such as these are a meaningful way of recognising their contribution while also creating space to focus on health, wellbeing, and connection. A workplace becomes stronger when people feel valued, supported, and included.” As part of the occasion, gifts were distributed to all participants in appreciation of their dedication and contribution to the organization.

The programme concluded with an evening networking session followed by a High Tea gathering at Colombo – Marine Bay, creating an opportunity for participants to connect, unwind and mark the occasion together.

Inspired by this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” the initiative reflected Serendib Flour Mills’ belief that supporting and uplifting people within the workplace contributes to stronger teams and a healthier working environment.

Through initiatives of this nature, Serendib Flour Mills continues to recognize the importance of creating meaningful spaces for appreciation, inclusion and employee wellbeing across its workforce.
