Serendib Flour Mills Hosts 100 Elderly Farmer Parents in Kandy for the Revered Dalada Perahera Celebration

Serendib Flour Mills has celebrated the fifth anniversary of its Serendib Uththama Dalada initiative, a program dedicated to supporting rural farming communities by allowing over 100 elderly individuals from remote areas to partake in the revered Sri Dalada Perahera in Kandy.

The event took place on August 26, 2026, and gathered senior citizens from Mahalakotuwa, Elahera, and Attanakadawala. Many of these elders have devoted their lives to agriculture, playing a crucial role in sustaining their communities across Sri Lanka. This initiative provided them with a unique opportunity to embark on a significant spiritual journey and experience one of the country’s most esteemed cultural and religious events.

Under the theme “Nourishing the hearts of elderly parents with spiritual merits, who once nourished a generation,” Serendib Uththama Dalada honors the invaluable contributions and sacrifices made by farming mothers and fathers, creating experiences that might otherwise be inaccessible to them.

Serendib Flour Mills arranged all aspects of the journey, including safe and comfortable transport to Kandy via three dedicated buses. Additional provisions were made for the participants to worship at the Sri Dalada Maligawa, followed by reserved seating at a specially constructed VIP stand, allowing them to enjoy the spectacular Dalada Perahera from a comfortable vantage point.

Prioritizing the wellbeing of the elderly attendees, Serendib Flour Mills ensured meals and refreshments were provided throughout the day, alongside ongoing medical support to guarantee their comfort and safety from the beginning of the trip to their return home.

Now in its fifth year, Serendib Uththama Dalada has become a significant corporate social responsibility initiative that reflects Serendib Flour Mills’ dedication to making a positive impact beyond its business activities. By acknowledging the contributions of communities that often remain unnoticed, the program embodies the principles of gratitude, compassion, and respect.

Through the 2026 edition of Serendib Uththama Dalada, Serendib Flour Mills has reiterated its commitment to standing with rural communities and fostering opportunities that not only recognize their contributions to the nation but also honor their aspirations and meaningful experiences.
