FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – US political operative Sergio Gor has met with senior officials of Sri Lanka’s Navy following meetings with the president and other officials during his visit to the island nation amidst the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
“Special Envoy Gor joined Sri Lanka Navy Chief of Staff Rear Admiral Damian Fernando aboard SLNS GAJABAHU, a former US Coast Guard cutter now in Sri Lanka Navy service, symbolizing the strength of our longstanding maritime partnership,” stated the US embassy in Colombo.
“The fourth former US Coast Guard cutter – ex-DECISIVE – is now undertaking its Pacific journey to Sri Lanka, which will further expand our maritime security partnership and regional cooperation.”
After arriving in the country on Thursday, Gor met with President Anura Dissanayake, followed by discussions with central bank chief Nandalal Weerasinghe and other presidential appointees.
On March 4, a US submarine torpedoed the Iranian Navy frigate IRIS Dena 19 nautical miles off the southern coast of Galle, Sri Lanka, while the island nation delayed processing a request for the frigate to call at port.
