Seylan Bank champions financial education by inaugurating its 291st ‘Pahasara’ Library at A/Buddhangala Central College.

Seylan Bank PLC celebrated a significant achievement in its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts with the inauguration of its 291st ‘Pahasara’ Library at A/Buddhangala Central College located in Padavi-Parakramapur. The opening ceremony took place on March 27, 2026, and was attended by notable figures including Ruwan Maithripala, Zonal Director of Education (Kebithigollewa), T.P. Jayasinghe, Divisional Director of Education (Padaviya), Kapila S. Kumara, Principal of A/Buddhangala Central College, Jananda Rathnayake, Regional Manager for North Central Province at Seylan Bank, and Neel Nishantha, Branch Manager of the Padaviya Branch of Seylan Bank.

The newly upgraded library was officially handed over following the conclusion of ‘Pahasara Week,’ a series of interactive activities aimed at engaging students, organized collaboratively by Seylan Bank and the college. As part of this initiative, the bank contributed books, a laptop, and a smart board to enhance learning opportunities and promote digital access.

‘Pahasara Week’ was celebrated prior to the library’s opening, occurring from March 24 to March 26, 2026, culminating in the festive inauguration of the new library. This week-long event focused on invigorating the athletic, artistic, and intellectual abilities of students, bringing together learners from various grades to commemorate the library’s launch. Activities included a school cricket tournament and an interactive Tikiri Pola session. Additionally, students from grades 10 and 11 participated in a financial literacy workshop that covered essential finance management skills, while a school art competition showcased students’ creative talents.

During the event, Asiri Abhayaratne, Assistant General Manager of Marketing and Sales at Seylan Bank, remarked, “The inauguration of our 291st library marks a crucial advancement as we work towards our goal of establishing 300 ‘Pahasara’ Libraries throughout the nation. Seylan Bank is dedicated to financing library renovations and supplying vital educational resources to enhance students’ knowledge and skills.”

The program received enthusiastic support from education officials, teachers, parents, and students, with notable participation from students throughout ‘Pahasara Week’ activities.

Initiated on March 1, 2013, the Seylan ‘Pahasara’ Library Project serves as a long-term commitment to social sustainability by prioritizing education to empower future generations. This initiative enables Seylan Bank to bolster library facilities and broaden access to essential educational resources across schools nationwide. As the bank progresses towards its 300th ‘Pahasara’ Library, this milestone exemplifies a significant achievement in the ‘Pahasara’ initiative, strengthening Seylan Bank’s dedication to fostering knowledge, enhancing financial literacy, and making a lasting impact in communities across Sri Lanka.
