SHEvolve ’26: Fostering Empowering Dialogues to Drive Transformation

SHEvolve ’26, an innovative initiative focused on empowering women and organized by AIESEC at the University of Colombo, is scheduled for May 9th, commencing at 9:00 a.m. The event will be held at the New Arts Theatre, University of Colombo. Following the success of the previous event, which attracted over 500 delegates and featured prominent guest Ms. Anudi Gunasekara, the current Miss World Sri Lanka 2024, this year’s gathering is expected to be even more influential, uniting significant voices to inspire dialogue and promote impactful change.

The theme for SHEvolve ’26 is “Beyond the Surface: Rethinking the Realities of Being a Woman,” with the goal of challenging societal norms, addressing stigmas, and enhancing understanding of the challenges faced by women. A highlight of the event will be a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring distinguished speakers, including Ms. Gangulee Walpola, the Chief Guest and a practicing Attorney-at-Law in Sri Lanka, who holds a Master’s degree in Law from the University of West London. In addition to her legal career, she is a professional singer and content creator.

Other notable panelists include Ms. Sade Greenwood, the Miss World Sri Lanka 2021 and co-founder of Mullwood, which is Sri Lanka’s first hair care brand dedicated to curly hair. She advocates for self-expression, inclusivity, and women’s empowerment. Dr. Ayisha Ziauddin, a Family Medicine Physician and current secretary of Zonta One Club of Colombo, as well as co-founder of the Muslim Women’s Collective, will also share her insights. Additionally, Ms. Vithara Mannage, a lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Business Management at APIIT Sri Lanka, will contribute her expertise; she holds an MBA (Distinction) from the University of Staffordshire and is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Colombo.

The panel will explore critical issues through various discussions including: “Unlearning to Empower – Education, Mindsets & Breaking Internal Barriers,” “Voice, Visibility & Rights – Navigating Expression in the Digital Age,” “Prioritizing Herself – Women’s Health, Stigma & Awareness,” and “The Pressure to Fit In – Beauty Norms & Social Expectations.”

Furthermore, the event will feature an inspiring keynote address by Ms. Yasodhara Pathanjali, a British Sri Lankan life coach and educator who co-founded the Independent Collective School, Sri Lanka’s first modern alternative school. The program will also include engaging and interactive sessions aimed at creating a dynamic experience for attendees, along with an entertainment segment led by Mr. Anderson Kirubaharan, a stand-up comedian and public speaking coach.

Participants will receive an e-certificate acknowledging their contribution to this movement for social change. The event will also incorporate creative competitions in art and short video formats, allowing participants to share their viewpoints and engage in the discussion meaningfully. Registrations for the event and competitions are now open.

SHEvolve ’26 welcomes all who are dedicated to fostering social impact and inclusive discussions to join this transformative experience. Let us come together to reshape narratives, amplify voices, and create enduring change.
