In the wake of the widespread flooding and landslides triggered by Cyclone Ditwah—a disaster that affected communities across all 25 districts of Sri Lanka and displaced hundreds of thousands of people—LOLC Group played an active role in corporate humanitarian relief, leveraging its scale, logistics capabilities, and strategic partnership with media to reach vulnerable families.
Nationwide ‘Divi Saviya’ Flood Support Initiative
On 22 December 2025, LOLC Group, in collaboration with Maharaja Media Network’s Sirasa, launched a major humanitarian effort under the banner “Divi Saviya”, signifying a broad corporate and civic response to the crisis. This phase of the programme was explicitly designed to address the urgent needs of families devastated by flooding and landslides across the island.
The initiative, backed by the slogan “Obai Mamai Ape Ratai” (You, Me and Our Country), was rolled out from LOLC’s head office in Rajagiriya and quickly mobilised resources for vulnerable communities. It focused on delivering:
• Emergency food supplies
• Basic necessities
• Targeted support for households displaced from their homes
These efforts were oriented toward residents in temporary shelters and other highneed locations impacted by infrastructure damage and loss of livelihoods.
MultiDistrict Relief and Rapid Deployment
The Divi Saviya programme was notable for its wide geographic coverage, bringing assistance to families not just in Colombo but across multiple districts where flooding and landslides had rendered normal life extremely difficult. LOLC and Sirasa worked to provide realtime coordination and information dissemination, which helped ensure resources and volunteers could be deployed swiftly to critical areas. By integrating LOLC’s logistical networks with Sirasa’s media reach, the campaign aimed to maximise its impact and efficiency—moving beyond traditional donations to active, ontheground support during the disaster’s peak and in the early recovery phase.
Significance of LOLC’s Corporate Role
LOLC’s engagement reflects a broader shift in corporate social responsibility in Sri Lanka’s private sector—toward systemic, multiphased humanitarian action rather than isolated charity. The Divi Saviya programme, launched in the midst of the country’s most severe floods in decades, demonstrated:
• Rapid mobilisation capabilities across regions
• Partnership with media to enhance communication and outreach
• Focus on vulnerable families in temporary shelters and crisis zones
By deploying targeted support at scale, LOLC helped fill critical gaps in immediate relief while setting a precedent for future privatesector involvement in national emergencies.
