A total of 48 teams emerged from an initial pool of 112 competitors to reach the Grand Finale of SoftSkills+ 2026, hosted by the SLIIT Business School. On May 16, SLIIT buzzed with excitement as 192 students representing various districts across Sri Lanka showcased their abilities in leadership, communication, creativity, and teamwork. This prestigious event served as a dynamic platform to recognize and nurture the talents of future leaders.
The event underscored the increasing significance of soft skills development for the youth and reaffirmed SLIIT Business School’s dedication to fostering leaders equipped for the future. Methodist College Colombo triumphed as the champions of SoftSkills+ 2026, while Ratnapura Sivali Central College secured the runner-up position, and Badulla Central College took home the 2nd runner-up award.
Mr. Chaaminda Kumarasiri, the Chairman of ACCA Sri Lanka, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the critical nature of communication, leadership, adaptability, and interpersonal skills in today’s fast-changing professional environment.
Additionally, notable artist Ms. Madani Malwattage and Mr. Tharindu Weerasinghe, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Kelaniya, facilitated an engaging workshop on Soft Skills Development for the participants. Their enlightening sessions motivated students to refine skills essential for success in modern workplaces.
SoftSkills+ 2026 received generous support from several prominent organizations and brands, which played a vital role in its successful execution. The organizers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the British Council, SLIIT International, CIMA Sri Lanka, Inspire Business School, Milo (Nestlé), Singer, Fusion Gear, Commercial Bank, and Hemas Consumer Brands.
The competition concluded with a spirited celebration, honoring exceptional performances from various schools. Mr. Ranitha Weerarathna, the Coordinator for SoftSkills+ 2026 and a Senior Lecturer at SLIIT Business School, remarked that “the impressive success and positive impact of this year’s event have undoubtedly laid a solid groundwork for future iterations.”
