SLT-MOBITEL mCash, the first mobile money service in Sri Lanka, has announced its collaboration with GovPay, a digital payment platform established by the government to enhance the efficiency and modernization of public service delivery.
This partnership aims to create a national framework that leverages GovPay’s capability to facilitate real-time payments for government services, ranging from traffic fines to local taxes, covering over 4,000 public services. By integrating mCash’s extensive service reach, this initiative is poised to advance Sri Lanka’s digital economy, promote financial inclusion, and improve the delivery of public services. It serves as a vital link between citizens, government entities, and technology, transforming standard payments into a catalyst for national productivity, inclusion, and public trust.
Customers of Mobitel can easily register for mCash by dialing #111#, or they can download the mCash App from Android, iOS, or Huawei AppGallery to start making secure government payments through GovPay. Additionally, users can also visit any nearby Mobitel outlet to make GovPay transactions effortlessly over the counter.
GovPay is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Digital Economy, the ICTA (now known as GovTech), and LankaPay, allowing payments to over 280 government entities for more than 4,090 services available to citizens. This new functionality enables users to settle various payments such as utility bills, education fees, healthcare costs, and a broad array of government dues smoothly through mCash. Importantly, it also allows for immediate traffic fine payments via GovPay, accessible anytime and anywhere through the mCash app.
With this integration, citizens benefit from the convenience of 24/7 payment access, while the government can enhance its revenue collection processes, making them quicker, more transparent, and more efficient. This also assists businesses, particularly SMEs, in achieving smoother compliance with regulations and lowering transaction costs.
For corporate entities and industry participants, this integration indicates an evolving payments ecosystem that minimizes obstacles in government-related transactions, fostering greater efficiency and compliance across various sectors.
