Softlogic Life Achieves Rs. 7.2 Billion in GWP, Leading the Industry in Absolute Growth for the First Half of FY26

As of the second quarter of 2026, Softlogic Life Insurance has expanded its market share to 20.3%, marking a significant rise from 18.4% in the previous fiscal year. The company has also established itself as Sri Lanka’s leading provider of health and protection claims, disbursing a total of Rs. 10.4 billion in claims and benefits during the first half of the year, which includes Rs. 7.2 billion dedicated specifically to health and protection claims.

In its financial performance for the six months ending June 30, 2026, Softlogic Life achieved a noteworthy Gross Written Premium (GWP) of Rs. 26 billion, representing a 39% increase compared to Rs. 18.7 billion in the same period of 2025. The company recorded a Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs. 1.46 billion, a 20% rise from the first half of the previous year, while its Profit Before Tax (PBT) also saw a 14% increase, reaching Rs. 1.98 billion. Softlogic Life maintained a strong Return on Equity (ROE) of 39% and a Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 245% as of December 31, 2025, significantly exceeding the regulatory minimum of 120%, thereby highlighting its financial stability.

The company’s total assets grew to Rs. 81.6 billion by June 30, 2026, with total equity amounting to Rs. 14.6 billion. Financial investments, which accounted for 75% of the total assets, reached Rs. 61 billion, with 74% of that portfolio invested in government securities, illustrating a cautious and strategic investment approach.

Softlogic Life’s commitment to protecting the health and financial security of Sri Lankans is evident, as it currently safeguards over 1.8 million individuals through more than 870,000 active policies, an increase from 770,749 policies in the first half of 2025. This positions the company as the largest life insurance provider in the country in terms of customer base. The firm’s growth trajectory is attributed to a well-rounded mix of protection and long-term saving solutions, supported by an expanding distribution network and ongoing improvements in customer service and operational efficiency.

The recent performance builds on a period of significant transformation for Softlogic Life, which includes the successful acquisition of Allianz Life Insurance Lanka in July 2025—the first such life insurer acquisition in Sri Lanka’s history. In July 2026, the company took a major step forward by acquiring a 60% controlling interest in Diamond Life Insurance in Bangladesh, marking the first overseas acquisition by a Sri Lankan life insurance provider and the first instance of a foreign insurer acquiring a stake in Bangladesh. This strategic move is part of Softlogic Life’s plan to replicate its successful business model in new regional markets.

Chairman Ashok Pathirage stated, “Our achievement of the largest Gross Written Premium growth in the industry, alongside being the foremost payer of health and protection claims, underscores the effectiveness of our strategy and our commitment to execution. We are dedicated to achieving sustainable growth while delivering value to our policyholders and stakeholders. As the insurance landscape evolves, we will continue to bolster our leadership through innovation and a strong emphasis on customer trust.”

The first half of 2026 comes at a pivotal moment for Sri Lanka’s insurance sector, which is experiencing significant changes due to an aging population, rising healthcare expenses, and heightened awareness regarding long-term financial security. In this context, Softlogic Life remains committed to enhancing its capabilities, understanding that the future of insurance encompasses not just financial protection, but also fostering healthier and more financially stable communities. Among its recent innovations is the “Health for Life” insurance product, designed without age limitations or expiration dates.

Managing Director Iftikar Ahamed remarked, “Our results reflect a foundation built on trust, disciplined execution, and innovation. ‘Health for Life’ is redefining protection for Sri Lankans, while our expansion into Bangladesh opens up an exciting new chapter. Our focus will remain on deepening customer trust and enhancing access to quality protection in Sri Lanka as we share our innovative practices across the region.”

This strategic vision was further emphasized at the company’s recent Investor Forum 2026, enhancing Softlogic Life’s capacity to adapt to changing customer needs while promoting long-term, sustainable growth. The company’s performance and brand reputation have garnered industry recognition, evidenced by several prestigious awards including Silver Excellence in Corporate Reporting and multiple Gold Awards for various categories at the CA Sri Lanka Annual Report Awards. Additionally, Softlogic Life received accolades for Integrated Reporting and was recognized as the Service Brand of the Year at the SLIM Brand Excellence Awards in 2025.
