Softlogic Life Insurance PLC, a leading insurer in Sri Lanka, has secured a significant USD 15 million Tier 2 loan facility from Norfund and the OP Finnfund Global Impact Fund I. This five-year loan marks a pivotal step in the company’s growth trajectory, reinforcing its reputation as an industry benchmark while advancing technology and building AI capabilities to enhance value for stakeholders. The move highlights strong international investor confidence in both Softlogic Life and the broader Sri Lankan insurance sector.

This investment aligns with Softlogic Life’s strategic focus on disciplined capital management, expanding its national footprint, and enhancing its distribution, digital platforms, and policyholder services. The company’s solid financial position and operational stability, particularly in protection services, allow it to pursue growth priorities and maintain service excellence, even amid challenging economic conditions. This underscores Softlogic Life’s commitment to providing comprehensive protection for Sri Lankans across all segments.

For the nine months ending September 30, 2025, Softlogic Life reported Gross Written Premiums of Rs. 28.2 billion, a 29% increase year-on-year, representing the highest absolute GWP growth in the industry at Rs. 6.28 billion. Profit Before Tax was Rs. 3.3 billion, supported by a Total Asset base of Rs. 59 billion and Total Equity of Rs. 11.6 billion. The company continues to lead the market in capital resilience, with a Return on Equity of 24% and a Capital Adequacy Ratio of 298%, well above the regulatory minimum of 120%.

Softlogic Life’s operational strength is further demonstrated by its performance in claims management, having disbursed Rs. 13.5 billion in claims and benefits, including Rs. 9.5 billion for health and other protection covers, compared to Rs. 8 billion the previous year. The company prioritizes customer trust and convenience, settling over 98% of claims within a single day. This commitment to fast and fair service distinguishes Softlogic Life, which protects the well-being of more than 1.3 million Sri Lankans.

The company’s future strategy aims to build one of the region’s most technologically advanced and customer-centric insurance businesses. This includes innovations in AI-enabled underwriting, predictive analytics, rapid claims automation, and digital health solutions to improve customer outcomes.

Fay Chetnakarnkul, Regional Director Asia at Norfund, commented, “Softlogic Life’s sustained growth and capital management demonstrate a commitment to expanding insurance access, including microinsurance products in Sri Lanka. Our investment supports the organization’s role in strengthening financial resilience for households across the country.”

Ulla-Maija Rantapuska, Senior Investment Manager at Finnfund, stated, “Softlogic Life is an example of balancing significant positive impacts with financial performance. Their leadership in digital innovation and health protection positions them as a key player in Sri Lanka’s insurance ecosystem.”

Tuomas Virtala, CEO of OP Pohjola Asset Management, added, “Our investment in Softlogic Life aims to drive digital transformation and growth in insurance services in Sri Lanka, focusing on social impact and accessibility for low- and mid-income populations.”

Softlogic Life Managing Director, Iftikar Ahamed, remarked, “This facility strengthens our Tier 2 capital at a crucial time. Our financial performance and market position have enabled us to attract long-term global capital. This partnership supports our expansion and enhances our ability to deliver long-term value protection solutions for Sri Lankan families.”

On the international stage, Softlogic Life was recognized with the ‘AI Initiative of the Year’ award at the 29th Asia Insurance Industry Awards (AIIA) 2025, making it the only Sri Lankan insurer acknowledged at this prestigious event. This award highlights the company’s innovative use of AI in underwriting, risk modeling, and claims processing, setting new industry benchmarks and reaffirming its vision to redefine insurance in Sri Lanka.

The funding from Norfund and OP Finnfund Global Impact Fund I strengthens Softlogic Life’s capital position, supporting its strategy to scale sustainably, enhance operational resilience, and elevate service delivery. As one of Sri Lanka’s fastest-growing insurers, the company remains dedicated to building an inclusive protection landscape that meets the evolving needs of millions across South Asia and South East Asia.
