Southern Cross University (SCU), a prominent public university from Australia, in collaboration with NSBM Green University, is set to offer Sri Lankan students the opportunity to earn a globally recognized Australian Bachelor of Business degree locally.
This significant launch event is scheduled from 19 to 21 February 2026 at NSBM Green University. It will bring together the Australian High Commission, the Ministry of Education, leading schools, tuition teachers, career counsellors, national media, parents, and students on a unified platform. This initiative underscores SCU’s dedication to providing students with a new pathway to world-class Australian degrees, delivered locally with direct academic and career connections to Australia.
The Southern Cross Model – Designed for Gen-Z
The event will highlight the Southern Cross Model, a unique learning framework that distinguishes Southern Cross University through its flexible delivery, clear learning pathways, and robust industry and community connections. The model features six-week teaching terms, a focused curriculum, the absence of traditional examinations, and high-impact industry projects and internships. This approach alleviates academic overload, enhances engagement, and enables students to master skills rather than merely memorize content, producing graduates who are confident, capable, and career-ready.
Launch of the Bachelor of Business
A major highlight of the launch is the introduction of SCU’s Bachelor of Business program, available to Sri Lankan students starting in February 2026. The curriculum is designed to equip students with essential skills for the modern global economy, including digital literacy, innovation, leadership, critical thinking, and strategic decision-making. The industry-embedded learning ensures that graduates not only earn an Australian degree but also gain real-world experience.
SCU Australian Academic Leaders in Sri Lanka
Enhancing the international academic expertise at the launch, Professor Darshana Sedera, Associate Dean (International and Engagement), and Associate Professor John Haw, Chair of Discipline, will attend the three-day event. These senior academics bring vast experience in digital transformation, business strategy, and student-centered learning. They will lead student workshops, parent forums, teacher briefings, and media interviews in both English and Sinhala, providing families with rare direct access to SCU’s leadership.
Teacher Ambassador Circle Launched
SCU will also formally establish the Teacher Ambassador Circle (TAC), the first international-university-backed teacher network in Sri Lanka. Senior schoolteachers, principals, career counsellors, and tuition masters will serve as SCU’s academic partners. They will guide students, align school pathways with SCU programs, and strengthen long-term educational outcomes.
Student Engagement and Live Admissions
Unlike traditional education fairs, the SCU–NSBM National Launch is a live recruitment and enrolment activation event. Over three days, students and parents can engage in interactive learning challenges, faculty-led sessions, school and teacher forums, and nationally broadcast media events. On-site teams will process applications and admissions inquiries, allowing students to enrol directly for the February and July 2026 intakes.
To support early learners, the first 30 students to enrol during the event will receive a Samsung tablet to assist with studies, online learning, and digital collaboration.
The SCU–NSBM partnership heralds a new era in Sri Lankan higher education, offering students Australian public-university degrees, global teaching standards, and international career pathways—all without leaving home. Southern Cross University and NSBM invite students, parents, teachers, and schools to join this historic launch from 19 to 21 February 2026 at NSBM Green University.
