A productive business meeting took place on May 6, 2026, between a delegation from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) at the EDB office in Colombo. This gathering served to reinforce the enduring economic relationship between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
The meeting was led by Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe, the Chairman and CEO of the EDB, and included Mr. Muhammad Raza, Senior Vice President of KCCI, alongside notable members of the KCCI delegation. Also present were Mr. Tilan M. Wijesooriya, the Acting Secretary General of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) and Associate Director of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, accompanied by senior officials from the EDB.
During the meeting, the EDB Chairman warmly welcomed the KCCI delegation and underscored the strong historical ties and the expanding economic collaboration between the two nations. He highlighted the significance of the Free Trade Agreement established between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in 2005, which marked a milestone as Pakistan’s first bilateral Free Trade Agreement and continues to facilitate trade and economic partnerships.
Discussions focused on the significant opportunities for increasing bilateral trade through enhanced collaboration in the private sector, better trade facilitation, effective use of the Free Trade Agreement, and improved business-to-business interactions.
The meeting concluded positively, with both parties expressing optimism about further enhancing trade relations and fostering long-term economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
