FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – During President Mohamed Muizzu’s upcoming visit to Sri Lanka, multiple agreements are set to be finalized, as confirmed by Minister Nalinda Jayatissa.
The visit is scheduled for May 3-5. Jayatissa informed the media that the Cabinet has given its approval for several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
The agreements include:
- A Memorandum of Understanding between the Maldives’ Ministry of Defence and National Services and Sri Lanka’s General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, focusing on training initiatives, staff exchanges, and collaborative research.
- An MoU between the education ministries of both nations to enhance the training and professional development of educators and school administrators.
- A Memorandum of Understanding for academic collaboration between the Maldivian Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare and the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka.
- An MoU aimed at fostering cooperation in the tourism sector between the Maldives and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
- A Memorandum of Understanding on collaboration in archival services between the National Archives of the Maldives and Sri Lanka’s National Archives Department.
- A Memorandum of Understanding focusing on sports and youth development between the Maldives’ Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Fitness and Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
These agreements signify a commitment to enhancing cooperation in various sectors, reflecting the growing partnership between the two countries. (Colombo/Apr28/2026)
