Sri Lanka apparel exports down 1.9-pct in Nov, US, EU up

According to Sri Lanka’s Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), apparel exports declined by 1.9% year-on-year to USD 367.60 million in November 2025. Despite this overall decrease, exports to the United States and the European Union saw growth.

JAAF highlighted, “Particularly encouraging is our 13.07% growth in the European Union market, which demonstrates the success of our strategic focus on strengthening relationships with EU buyers and meeting their increasingly stringent sustainability and compliance requirements.”

For the first eleven months of 2025, cumulative apparel exports totaled USD 4,571.99 million, reflecting a 5.42% increase compared to the same period last year, based on JAAF data. In November 2024, apparel exports were recorded at USD 374.94 million.

Exports to the United States reached USD 152.32 million, marking a 5.79% rise from USD 143.98 million. Meanwhile, exports to the European Union (excluding the UK) were USD 119.61 million, up 3.35% from USD 115.73 million. However, exports to the United Kingdom fell by 13.83% to USD 43.63 million from USD 50.63 million.

Apparel exports to other markets amounted to USD 52.04 million, a 19.44% decline from USD 64.60 million. (Colombo/Dec2/2025)
