The head of a Sri Lankan e-commerce platform has announced that the company has achieved significant reductions in operational costs through the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI). Dulith Herath, founder and chairman of the e-commerce platform Kapruka and the coffee chain Java Lounge, shared on social media that they are “on track to achieve a 40 percent reduction in operational costs thanks to AI.”
Herath elaborated that most of the AI-driven efficiencies have been realized in the back office, rather than in the logistics side of e-commerce. He also mentioned that business models relying solely on technology without “on the ground operations” may encounter challenges with the advent of AI.
