FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – Sri Lanka is requesting residents across the island to reduce electricity usage during peak hours from 6 PM to 10 PM daily. Citizens are encouraged to refrain from charging electric vehicles, washing or ironing clothes, and even switching off refrigerators for a couple of hours during this time.

“We ask people to cut down electricity consumption during peak hours,” stated Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) Chairman Wijendra Bandara.

He further suggested that activities such as washing or ironing clothes, as well as charging electric vehicles, should be postponed until the weekends.

“There’s no harm in switching off the fridge for a few hours,” he added.
