FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The Sri Lanka Police have announced that they are looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) C D Wickramaratne. He was taken to Colombo East Teaching Hospital after suffering gunshot injuries at his home located on Parakrama Road in the Talahena area, within the jurisdiction of the Malabe Police Division.
According to a statement from the Police Media Division, the Western Province Southern District Crime Division, along with the Malabe Police Station, is carrying out the investigation.
Wickramaratne held the position of the 35th Inspector General of Police in Sri Lanka from November 27, 2020, until November 23, 2023, and he was 63 years old at the time of his passing. (Colombo/Jul17/2026)
