Market analysts noted that the day’s trading activity reflected a continuation of the positive momentum from the previous session. Raynal Wickremeratne, Head of Research and Strategy at NDB Securities, remarked, “The market surged significantly at the outset, although it later stabilized somewhat. This is still a promising indication, as substantial market increases can often trigger sell-offs. However, the net position remained positive, reflecting a favorable outlook, particularly in light of the recent rating upgrade.”

Among the stocks contributing positively to the ASPI were Commercial Bank, which rose by 0.62 percent to 204.00 rupees, Dialog Axiata, increasing by 0.86 percent to 46.90 rupees, Hatton National Bank, up 0.46 percent to 384.50 rupees, and Hemas Holdings, which climbed 1.32 percent to 30.80 rupees.

Conversely, the shares of Carson Cumberbatch PLC fell by 5.21 percent to 704.50 rupees, Hayleys decreased by 0.55 percent to 224.00 rupees, and Lion Brewery Ceylon dropped by 1.93 percent to 1,765.25 rupees, marking them as the top negative contributors.

In notable transactions, GTV Global Holdings acquired 849,800 shares of Maharaja Foods, while a Hayleys employee provident fund purchased 40,000 shares of Diesel & Motor Engineering (DIMO). Additionally, crossings were observed in shares of Dipped Products, Hayleys, and Browns Investments. (Colombo/Sep23/2026)
