During the second quarter of 2026, business confidence in Sri Lanka experienced a decline due to increased macroeconomic uncertainties stemming from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has impacted commercial activities. Nevertheless, companies in Sri Lanka are anticipating a rebound in overall confidence for the third quarter as global tensions are expected to subside.
The latest quarterly Business Outlook Survey (BOS) published by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) indicates that the Business Condition Index (BCI), which evaluates firms’ perceptions of both the current and future business landscapes, decreased to 101 in Q2 2026, down from 104 in the previous quarter. Despite this reduction, the index remains slightly above the neutral point of 100, which distinguishes between economic expansion and contraction.
Looking forward to the third quarter of 2026, the Central Bank anticipates that the index will rise to 107, signifying a resurgence of optimism within the business community.
