FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The Central Bank of Sri Lanka is organizing a digital payments awareness initiative in Trincomalee on June 5th and 6th, aimed at educating government officials, business leaders, and the general public.
According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), participants will have the chance to receive tailored support from various financial entities, including banks, finance companies, and e-money service providers. Additionally, LankaPay (Pvt) Ltd, which oversees LANKAQR and other interbank digital payment systems, will also be present to assist attendees in registering for and utilizing a diverse array of digital payment services.
This initiative is part of a broader national campaign collaborating with financial institutions and other partners. Previous similar events were successfully conducted in regions such as Hambantota, Nuwara Eliya, Dambulla, and Kurunegala, which helped raise awareness and allowed businesses and the public to experience the advantages and ease of digital payment solutions, as noted by the regulator.
Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe and other high-ranking officials from the CBSL are expected to participate in the event, which will take place at the parking area adjacent to the Central Bus Stand in Trincomalee from 9 AM to 6 PM.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience the benefits of digital payments firsthand, as they can purchase a variety of goods and services from merchant stalls set up at the event, often at discounted rates.
Moreover, financial institutions will implement a merchant engagement program in Trincomalee town to assist local businesses in adopting the LANKAQR payment acceptance system.
The CBSL encourages both the public and business owners in Trincomalee to seize this chance to enhance their understanding and experience the benefits of digital payments, with guidance and personalized support from financial institutions.
