Sri Lanka will have representation at a significant international policy dialogue as Central Bank Governor Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe participates in the Asia in 2050 conference held in Thailand this week. Dr. Weerasinghe will join global financial leaders for a high-level roundtable discussion titled “Bringing Everything Together – Policy Challenges for Asia Going Forward,” scheduled for Friday, March 6, from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Bangkok.

The session will feature prominent figures such as Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Malaysia’s Finance Minister Amir Hamzah Azizan, and Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas. The discussion will be moderated by Bloomberg’s Haslinda Amin.

This roundtable is part of the broader Asia in 2050 conference, which takes place from March 4 to 6 in Bangkok. The conference, organized in anticipation of the 2026 Annual Meetings, aims to bring together policymakers, experts, and industry leaders from across the region. Participants will exchange views on Asia’s long-term growth prospects and emerging policy challenges, with sessions designed to encourage peer learning, collaboration, and innovative thinking regarding the region’s future opportunities and risks.

The event also serves as a precursor to the 2026 Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group, set to occur in Bangkok from October 12–18, 2026. These Annual Meetings gather central bank governors, finance and development ministers, private sector leaders, civil society representatives, and academics to discuss global issues such as the world economic outlook, financial stability, poverty reduction, inclusive growth, and job creation.
