Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology has alerted residents of impending heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm across the western, Sabaragamuwa, and north-western provinces, as well as in the districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara. The department noted that a low-pressure system located to the northeast of the island remains active.
According to their forecast, this weather system is anticipated to drift away from Sri Lanka and gradually lose strength over the next 36 hours.
In light of these conditions, the public is urged to take necessary precautions to mitigate potential damage from heavy rainfall, strong winds, lightning, and thunderstorms.
