Sri Lanka’s official reserves increase by 2.1%, reaching USD 6.59 billion in July.

In July 2026, Sri Lanka experienced a significant rebound in its official reserve assets, which increased by USD 133 million, as reported by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL). This represents a 2.1% rise compared to the previous month, bringing the total reserves to USD 6,591 million by the end of July.

At the close of June 2026, the reserves had been recorded at USD 6,458 million. A key factor contributing to this increase was the foreign currency reserves, which grew by USD 96 million, or 1.5%, moving up from USD 6,263 million to USD 6,359 million.

This positive trend follows a volatile period for the nation’s financial reserves. Earlier in 2026, the official reserves had exceeded the USD 7 billion mark in February, reaching USD 7,284 million, which was the highest level since August 2020.

However, this upward trend was not sustained, as the reserves fell below USD 7 billion again in April 2026. Although there was a slight increase of 1.6% in May, the figures dropped once more in June to USD 6,458 million before the recent recovery in July.
