Sri Lanka’s Stock Market Experiences Slight Decline During Midday Session

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – On Tuesday afternoon, the Colombo Stock Exchange in Sri Lanka reported a decline, with the benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) dropping by 0.27 percent. According to data from the CSE, the ASPI fell by 59.11 points, settling at 21,473.27. The S&P SL20, which reflects more liquid stocks, also experienced a minor decrease of 0.04 percent, equating to a drop of 2.64 points, bringing it to 6,019.55.

Among the stocks positively impacting the ASPI were Cargills (Ceylon), which rose by 3.38 percent to reach 649.75 rupees, Dialog Axiata, up 0.69 percent at 44.00 rupees, RIL Property, increasing by 1.63 percent to 24.90 rupees, and Sampath Bank, which saw a slight rise of 0.18 percent at 137.50 rupees.

Conversely, the top decliners included Melstacorp, which fell by 1.23 percent to 181.00 rupees, LOLC Holdings, down 0.25 percent at 492.00 rupees, Hatton National Bank, which experienced a significant drop of 4.76 percent to 36.00 rupees, and Richard Pieris and Company, declining by 2.58 percent to 30.20 rupees.

The market turnover was recorded at 322.4 million rupees, with the Food, Beverage & Tobacco sector leading the turnover, contributing 65.7 million rupees.

In other news, BPPL Holdings has revealed that its subsidiary, Beira Brush (Private) Limited, has entered into a Business Transfer Agreement to acquire the customer base of Ravi Industries, along with the “Ravi” trademark and associated intellectual property. The total minimum consideration for this acquisition is set at 300 million rupees, to be paid over a five-year timeframe, contingent on the revenue generated from the acquired assets.
