Sri Lanka’s Stock Market Gains Momentum, Sparked by Increased Interest in Dialog and Hayleys

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – On Tuesday afternoon, the Colombo Stock Exchange in Sri Lanka exhibited an upward trend, as indicated by the latest data. The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) recorded an increase of 0.83 percent.

The ASPI rose by 178.52 points, reaching a total of 21,581.80, while the more actively traded S&P SL20 index also experienced growth, climbing 0.79 percent, or 47.34 points, to settle at 6,015.76.

Notable gains within the ASPI were led by several companies, including Dialog Axiata, which increased by 3.16 percent to 42.50 rupees, Hayleys with a rise of 1.77 percent to 229.75 rupees, Colombo Fort Land & Building soaring by 21.11 percent to 74.00 rupees, and Browns Investments, which gained 3.57 percent to 5.80 rupees.

Conversely, Commercial Bank of Ceylon saw a decline of 0.37 percent, settling at 201.00 rupees, while People’s Insurance dropped by 4.68 percent to 26.50 rupees, and People’s Leasing & Finance fell by 1.40 percent to 21.20 rupees, marking them as significant negative contributors.

The market turnover reached 483 million rupees, with the capital goods sector leading the way at 60.3 million rupees, closely followed by the food, beverage, and tobacco sector, which accounted for 58.1 million rupees.

Additionally, a trading suspension for Hela Apparel Holdings was announced, effective June 18, due to an audit disclaimer in the independent auditor’s report for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.
