Sri Lanka’s Stock Market Rises, Driven by Strong Performance in Capital Goods Sector

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The Colombo Stock Exchange in Sri Lanka showed an upward trend during the intra-day session on Wednesday, according to data from the CSE. The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) increased by 0.26 percent.

The ASPI rose by 55.89 points, reaching a total of 21,603.06, while the more actively traded S&P SL20 index also saw gains, climbing 0.16 percent or 9.59 points to settle at 6,010.27.

Among the stocks positively influencing the ASPI were Melstacorp, which appreciated by 0.98 percent to 180.75 rupees; Hayleys, which increased by 1.10 percent to 229.00 rupees; John Keells Holdings, up 0.51 percent to 19.80 rupees; and Lanka IOC, which rose by 1.67 percent to 137.25 rupees.

Conversely, the top negative contributors included Commercial Bank of Ceylon, which declined by 0.12 percent to 200.75 rupees; Malwatte Valley Plantations, experiencing a significant drop of 7.47 percent to 52.00 rupees; and Ceylon Cold Stores, which fell by 0.92 percent to 135.00 rupees.

The total market turnover reached 511.7 million rupees, with capital goods leading the sector with a turnover of 32.3 million rupees.

Additionally, Nation Lanka Finance reported an increase in losses attributable to its equity holders for the quarter ending March 2026, posting a loss of 231,491 rupees, compared to a loss of 211,725 rupees in the same quarter of 2025. (Colombo/June10/2026)
