Sri Lanka’s Stock Market Sees Gains as Banking Sector Drives Increased Activity

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – On Tuesday morning, the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) in Sri Lanka experienced a slight increase, according to the latest data. The All Share Price Index (ASPI) rose by 11.60 points, marking a 0.05 percent gain, bringing it to a total of 21,133.38. The more actively traded S&P SL20 index also saw an uptick, increasing by 8.76 points or 0.15 percent to reach 5,949.05.

Several companies contributed positively to the ASPI’s performance, including Commercial Bank of Ceylon, which gained 0.37 percent to trade at 201.25 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company, which saw an increase of 2.66 percent to 27.00 rupees, LOLC Holdings, which rose by 1.03 percent to 490.00 rupees, and The Lanka Hospitals Corporation, which climbed 4.08 percent to 114.75 rupees.

Conversely, some companies experienced declines, with John Keells Holdings and Central Finance Company both decreasing by 0.91 percent to 217.00 rupees, and Browns Investments dropping 1.92 percent to 5.10 rupees.

The market turnover recorded was 64.7 million rupees, with the banking sector leading this figure at 32.4 million rupees.

In other news, SANASA Life Insurance reported a Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 123 percent as of June 30, reflecting total available capital of 941.6 million rupees, which meets the minimum regulatory standards. The company also mentioned that proceeds from debentures held in escrow were released and subsequently invested in government securities on July 21.

Additionally, ACL Plastics announced an interim dividend of 3.75 rupees per share for the financial year that ended on March 31, with the ex-dividend date scheduled for August 12. ACL Plastics’ stock saw a 2.13 percent increase, trading at 144.00 rupees.
