Sri Lanka’s Stock Market Sees Gains Driven by Surge in Consumer Services Activity

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – On Tuesday, the Colombo Stock Exchange in Sri Lanka experienced an upward trend, as indicated by the latest data from the CSE.

The All Share Price Index (ASPI) increased by 0.72 percent, translating to a rise of 162.12 points, reaching a total of 22,746. Meanwhile, the S&P SL20 index saw a gain of 0.51 percent, or 31.54 points, bringing it to 6,244.

Among the key performers boosting the ASPI were John Keells Holdings, which rose by 0.99 percent to 20.50 rupees, Melstacorp, which surged by 1.89 percent to 189 rupees, Cargills (Ceylon), which climbed 1.84 percent to 704 rupees, and Lanka Realty Investments, which saw a notable increase of 8.18 percent, reaching 52.90 rupees.

Conversely, the stocks of Lion, DFCC Bank, and Carson Cumberbatch experienced declines, with Carson Cumberbatch falling by 0.60 percent to 835 rupees.

The total market turnover amounted to 2 billion rupees, with the Consumer Services sector leading the way, contributing 328 million rupees.

In a separate announcement, Equity Two declared a dividend of 4.41 rupees. (Colombo/May 6/2026)
