The Public Debt Management Office (PDMO) of Sri Lanka, which functions under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, successfully achieved its goal of raising Rs. 70,000 million during today’s Treasury bill auction on the 16th, despite an increase in weighted average yields across all three maturity periods.
In comparison to the previous auction, yields saw an uptick across all categories:
- 91-Day Bills: The Weighted Average Yield Rate (WAYR) increased by 15 basis points to 9.18%, up from 9.03% in the last auction. The PDMO accepted the complete Rs. 25,000 million offered.
- 182-Day Bills: The WAYR rose by 12 basis points to 9.36%, from 9.24% previously. The full offered amount of Rs. 25,000 million was fully accepted.
- 364-Day Bills: The one-year yield climbed by 11 basis points to 9.88%, an increase from 9.77% in the last sale. The entire Rs. 20,000 million offered was accepted.
Overall market demand significantly surpassed the government’s borrowing needs, with total bids amounting to Rs. 171,601 million—more than 2.4 times the total Rs. 70,000 million available:
- Bids for the 91-day tenor totaled Rs. 63,411 million.
- Bids for the 182-day tenor reached Rs. 53,833 million.
- Bids for the 364-day tenor amounted to Rs. 54,357 million.
The official settlement for this auction is scheduled for September 18, 2026.
