Sri Lanka’s Water Authority Alerts Public to Possible Supply Interruptions

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has issued a caution to the public regarding diminishing water resources and is taking proactive measures to prevent a severe shortage by restricting supply at this time.

Chandana Bandara, the chairman of the NWSDB, informed journalists, “We foresee challenges emerging in the next fortnight, particularly with the holiday season approaching.”

He emphasized the necessity of managing the water supply effectively. Bandara indicated that if the NWSDB maintains its current level of water distribution, the Kalatuwawa Reservoir will only have enough water to last for the next 20 days, necessitating the imposition of supply limitations.

“Due to the ongoing hot weather, there has been a surge in water demand. We must impose restrictions on the water supply to mitigate the risk of a more serious situation,” he added.
