Sri Lanka Seeks Expressions of Interest to Initiate Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Initiatives

Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Energy, along with the Board of Investment (BoI), has initiated a Request for Information (RFI) aimed at fostering the development of Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia initiatives within the nation.

The BoI announced that the country has already pinpointed its potential for offshore wind and solar energy. The National Hydrogen Roadmap (2023) positions Sri Lanka as a prospective regional center for the production and export of green hydrogen and ammonia.

The RFI seeks submissions from both local and international stakeholders, including investors, developers, and operators, who are interested in presenting their project ideas related to the manufacturing of Green Hydrogen and Ammonia, as well as the establishment of export terminals, storage solutions, and component manufacturing facilities.

Sri Lanka is taking significant steps towards a sustainable energy future, with a vision to produce 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality in its power sector by 2050. Additionally, the country aims to generate $1 billion in annual revenue from green energy exports by the year 2030.

The deadline for submitting RFI responses is set for June 5, 2026, at 1500 hours local time.
