FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The cabinet of Sri Lanka has given its approval for the Legal Draftsman to create a draft bill aimed at amending the Customs Ordinance, as outlined by minister Nalinda Jayatissa.
Jayatissa informed the media that this initiative is part of a broader effort to establish and enhance revenue administration systems of international standards within the country.
A dedicated Steering Committee on Customs Affairs has presented its recommendations regarding the restructuring and modernization of Sri Lanka Customs. According to Jayatissa, the committee conducted an extensive examination of the Customs Ordinances, pinpointing outdated clauses and identifying which provisions require updates over time. They also took into account feedback from various stakeholders, including the business community and those involved in import and export activities.
The committee engaged in discussions for nearly seven months before delivering a comprehensive report based on consultations with relevant parties.
