FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has green-lighted a plan to facilitate the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Universal Health and Preparedness Review, aimed at enhancing the nation’s ability to respond to health crises, as announced by Minister Nalinda Jayatissa.
This initiative was put forth by the Minister of Health and Mass Media following an invitation from the WHO’s Director-General, which the Sri Lankan government accepted.
The review process is voluntary and will be conducted under the leadership of Sri Lanka, with evaluations by other member states to assist countries in identifying, preventing, and managing health emergencies.
Minister Jayatissa emphasized that the review will be supported by a strong commitment from the highest levels of government, utilizing an inclusive approach that engages both governmental and societal resources.
The objective of the review is to enhance Sri Lanka’s current crisis management frameworks by assessing preparedness across various sectors of governance and public service.
“This review aims to transcend previous evaluation methods by fostering better coordination among sectors, establishing robust governance frameworks, and securing necessary financial backing,” stated Jayatissa.
The government has indicated that hosting this review is a significant advancement in reaffirming Sri Lanka’s dedication to bolstering its health security infrastructure. (Colombo/Aug25/2026)
