FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The Sri Lankan government has engaged with foreign diplomatic missions to promote its upcoming international trade exhibition, as announced by the country’s export development board.
A diplomatic briefing concerning Sri Lanka Expo 2027 took place earlier this month, attracting approximately 100 attendees, including representatives from foreign embassies in Colombo, as well as ambassadors and delegates from various missions accredited to Sri Lanka, both in-person and virtually.
The purpose of the briefing was to inform the diplomatic community about the rescheduled Sri Lanka Expo 2027 and to request their assistance in encouraging participation among potential buyers, investors, and business representatives from their respective nations, according to the EDB.
Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath emphasized the importance of collaboration with foreign missions to draw suitable buyers, investors, and business groups to the exhibition.
EDB Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe elaborated on the expo’s objectives, highlighting key focus areas, anticipated outcomes, and opportunities for participation, along with strategies aimed at attracting global buyers, investors, and business partners.
The EDB expressed its eagerness for the international diplomatic community’s involvement in ensuring that Sri Lanka Expo 2027 serves as an effective platform for enhancing global partnerships and reinforcing Sri Lanka’s status as a competitive destination for trade and investment.
Scheduled for January 14-17, 2027, Sri Lanka Expo 2027 will function as an international venue for trade, investment, and business networking, uniting Sri Lankan exporters, international buyers, investors, and industry players to explore avenues for trade, investment, and economic collaboration. The event, initially slated for 2026, was postponed due to global economic conditions, fluctuations in logistics costs, and feedback from key stakeholders to enhance the chances of a successful international gathering.
