Sri Lankan Companies Receive Training in Disaster Recovery Strategies

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has recently organized a series of workshops focused on business continuity management (BCM) to enhance disaster readiness within Sri Lanka’s private sector.

This initiative aligns with the National Disaster Management Plan for 2023–2030, which designates the chamber as a primary entity responsible for assisting private businesses in the development and implementation of Business Continuity Plans aimed at disaster recovery and sustainability, according to the trade organization.

“The national framework emphasizes the necessity of maintaining operations in private-sector manufacturing, production, services, and employment during disasters, which is vital for national preparedness. It specifically urges businesses to create contingency plans that are integrated with broader disaster management strategies,” the chamber stated.

The two-day workshop educated participants on essential aspects of BCM, organizational resilience, and disaster preparedness, concentrating on the importance of sustaining critical operations and effectively recovering from disruptions.

The chamber highlighted that a disruption affecting a single business can have a ripple effect on employees, suppliers, customers, and other entities within a supply chain, underscoring the significance of preparedness in ensuring ongoing economic activity during disasters or significant disruptions.

The workshop utilized a BCM curriculum based on ISO 22301:2019, developed as part of the World Food Programme’s Disaster and Climate Resilience Project. (Colombo/Sep29/2026)
