Sri Lankan High Commissioner Engages with Pakistan Business Council Chair in Karachi

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan, Rear Admiral Fred Senevirathne, engaged in a meeting with Dr. Zeelaf Munir, the Chairperson of the Pakistan Business Council (PBC), on February 6, 2026, in Karachi. Dr. Munir, who also holds the position of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of English Biscuit Manufacturers (EBM), leads Pakistan’s premier business policy advocacy organization. The PBC plays a crucial role in fostering a favorable business climate, encouraging export growth, and promoting industrial development. Dr. Munir warmly welcomed the High Commissioner at her office.

During their discussion, the High Commissioner provided an overview of the current economic and political scenario in Sri Lanka, emphasizing the country’s improving economic outlook, increased political stability, and the creation of a favorable environment for foreign investment. He highlighted the new government’s policy priorities, focusing on ongoing economic reforms, investment-friendly initiatives, and the potential to enhance bilateral economic and trade cooperation between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

The High Commissioner extended an invitation to the Chairperson of the Pakistan Business Council to consider leading a delegation of prominent business leaders and investors to Sri Lanka. The objective would be to engage with their Sri Lankan counterparts and explore potential investment opportunities and avenues for collaboration across key sectors.

The meeting was facilitated by Mehmood Mandviwalla, the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, who was also present. Additionally, Christy Ruban, Minister and Head of Chancery of the Sri Lanka High Commission in Islamabad, and Sanjeewa Pattiwila, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Karachi, participated in the meeting.
