FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the President of Sri Lanka, recently held a meeting with Jay Shah, the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), at the Presidential Secretariat.
In a statement, Dissanayake noted, “I met with @ICC Chairman @JayShah this afternoon to discuss various topics of shared interest, particularly focusing on the ongoing development of cricket and sports within Sri Lanka.”
Following the resignation of Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), along with his executive team, Dissanayake’s administration formed an interim cricket council in April.
Historically, the ICC has been resistant to government involvement in cricket administrations and has previously suspended Sri Lanka Cricket for similar actions. Nevertheless, the Sri Lankan government has asserted that this interim arrangement is a temporary step aimed at implementing constitutional reforms. (Colombo/Jun20/2026)
