Sri Lankan Rupee Declines Against the Dollar as Bond Yields Rise

Sri Lanka’s currency concluded trading at 319.90/320.40 against the US dollar in the spot market on Tuesday, a slight increase from the previous day’s rate of 319.60/320.00, according to market participants. Meanwhile, bond yields experienced a modest rise.

A bond set to mature on July 1, 2028, finished at a yield of 9.75/85 percent. The yield for a bond maturing on October 15, 2029, rose to 10.05/15 percent, up from 9.95/10.05 percent. A bond due on July 1, 2030, remained unchanged at 10.20/25 percent. The bond maturing on June 1, 2033, closed at 11.00/10 percent, while the bond set to mature on June 15, 2034, increased to 11.25/30 percent from 11.20/25 percent. Lastly, a bond maturing on June 15, 2035, ended at 11.25/32 percent.

Additionally, it has been announced that Treasury bills worth 100,000 million rupees will be issued through an auction scheduled for Wednesday. (Colombo/May5/2026)
