Sri Lankan Rupee Declines to 326.00/327.00 Against the US Dollar; Bond Yields Experience a Decrease

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – On Wednesday, the Sri Lankan rupee weakened against the US dollar, closing at 326.00/327.00 compared to the previous day’s rate of 326.70/90. Market participants noted that there was no spot trading activity, while bond yields remained stable.

As of December 30, 2025, the rupee was valued at 309.50/60.

A bond set to mature on July 1, 2028, saw its yield rise to 9.65/75 percent, up from 9.60/70 percent. Similarly, a bond maturing on December 15, 2028, increased to 9.70/80 percent, from 9.70/75 percent.

In contrast, a bond maturing on October 15, 2029, held steady at 9.85/90 percent, as did another bond maturing on December 15, 2029, which remained unchanged at 9.85/95 percent.

The yield for a bond maturing on July 1, 2030, rose to 10.00/10 percent, compared to 10.00/07 percent previously. Conversely, a bond due on October 1, 2032, decreased to 10.65/75 percent from 10.75/85 percent.

Lastly, the yield on a bond maturing on June 1, 2033, fell to 10.90/11.00 percent, down from 10.95/11.05 percent, while a bond due on June 15, 2034, increased to 11.10/18 percent, up from 11.08/12 percent. (Colombo/May13/2026)
