Sri Lankan Rupee Holds Steady as Bond Yields Remain Unchanged

Sri Lanka’s rupee was quoted at 309.20/22 to the US dollar in the spot market on Tuesday, maintaining its position from 309.20/25 the previous day, according to dealers. Meanwhile, bond yields remained largely stable.

A bond maturing on July 1, 2028, was quoted unchanged at 9.03/05 percent. A bond maturing on September 15, 2029, was quoted at 9.44/46 percent. The bond maturing on March 15, 2031, saw a slight increase, quoted at 9.70/75 percent, up from 9.65/75 percent. Furthermore, a bond maturing on December 15, 2032, was quoted at 10.13/15 percent. The bond maturing on June 1, 2033, experienced a minor rise, quoted at 10.36/42 percent, compared to the previous 10.35/42 percent.

An auction is scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, to issue Rs 60,000 million worth of Treasury bills.

The telegraphic transfer rates for the US dollar were 305.7500 for buying and 312.7500 for selling. For the British pound, the rates were 415.2934 for buying and 426.7850 for selling. The euro was quoted at 359.7771 for buying and 371.3251 for selling.

On the Colombo Stock Exchange, the All Share Price Index (ASPI) rose by 0.28 percent, or 66.90 points, to reach 23,967. In contrast, the S&P SL20 declined by 0.18 percent, or 12.06 points, to settle at 6,727.
