FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – On Friday, Sri Lanka’s currency, the rupee, showed improvement against the US dollar, trading at a rate of 333.50/54 in the spot market, compared to the previous day’s rate of 333.50/65. Meanwhile, bond yields continued their downward trend, according to market participants.
A bond set to mature on May 1, 2028, remained unchanged with a yield of 10.05/15 percent. The yield for a bond maturing on October 15, 2028, decreased slightly to 10.20/30 percent from the previous 10.20/35 percent. Similarly, a bond due on December 15, 2029, saw its yield drop from 10.60/65 percent to 10.55/65 percent.
In contrast, a bond maturing on October 15, 2030, experienced a slight rise in yield, moving from 10.80/88 percent to 10.80/90 percent. The yield for a bond maturing on February 1, 2031, also increased, now quoted at 10.85/95 percent up from 10.85/93 percent. Bonds maturing on December 15, 2032, and January 15, 2033, held steady, with yields at 11.30/40 percent and 11.40/50 percent, respectively.
A bond due on November 1, 2033, showed a slight decrease in yield, moving from 11.50/60 percent to 11.50/55 percent, while a bond maturing on October 15, 2034, fell from 11.70/80 percent to 11.65/70 percent. The yield on bonds maturing on August 15, 2036, remained unchanged at 12.15/25 percent, and a bond due on July 1, 2037, decreased to 12.15/25 percent from 12.20/25 percent.
Additionally, the telegraphic transfer rates for the US dollar were recorded at 329.00 for buying and 338.00 for selling. The euro was quoted at 377.0689 for buying and 390.8497 for selling, while the pound was priced at 442.8177 for buying and 456.9261 for selling. (Colombo/Aug14/2026)
