Sri Lankan Rupee Trades at 335.55/60 Against US Dollar as Bond Yields Decline

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – On Wednesday, Sri Lanka’s currency strengthened against the US dollar, trading at 335.55/60 in the spot market, an improvement from the previous day’s rate of 335.70/75. This increase comes amid a backdrop of heightened market liquidity and anticipation of a potential agreement between the US and Iran, as reported by market dealers.

In the bond market, yields experienced a decline. The bond set to mature on October 15, 2030, was quoted at 11.33/39 percent. Meanwhile, the bond maturing on February 15, 2031, closed at 11.45/50 percent, and the bond maturing on January 15, 2033, was noted at 12.00/05 percent. Additionally, the bond maturing on October 15, 2034, closed at 12.20/23 percent, and the bond maturing on August 15, 2036, finished at 12.60/75 percent. The bond due on July 1, 2037, saw a decrease, closing at 12.65/75 percent, down from its previous rate of 12.75/85 percent.

Regarding the telegraphic transfer rates, the dollar was quoted at 331.25 for buying and 340.25 for selling. The euro was listed at 378.8585 for buying and 392.6393 for selling, while the pound was at 443.8384 for buying and 457.9468 for selling.

Additionally, it was announced that Rs 140,000 million in Treasury bills will be issued through an upcoming auction.
